7. Personal Statement

My mother presented me a well known interior design and decoration magazine produced in Malaysia once I was still in primary school. I got interested and started to collect more of them. Since then, I found out that designing is such an inspiring job. The brilliant combination of Eastern, Western and Islamic Architecture both on exteriors and interiors of buildings as well as futuristic mega-structures in Putrajaya, Malaysia, has made great impact to my interest for Architecture and Design especially when it is the place where I grew up for almost a decade now. Ever since moving into The Intelligent City, I felt an intense desire to pursue interior design as a career. I was inspired by the buildings' elegant and sophisticated interiors which incorporates designs of several contemporary and architectural elements to reflect universal looks. The art of architecture and design enthusiast me and made me eager to study further about them.

My sister and two brothers are successful graduates of UK universities, namely University of Bath, University of Wales Swansea and University of Nottingham. I am elated to pursue my childhood ambition to study in the UK, gain abundance of knowledge and experiences on the country, while studying together with other nationalities. I strongly believe that I could complete my higher education in the UK with flying colours in view of the fact that my earlier education were taught in English. Supreme recommendation about your university from my lecturers and seniors brought me into anticipation to apply for undergraduate studies over there.

I was the Vice President of English Language Society in my high school final year and was given credence to tutor English Language Communication Confidence for several of times to the juniors. During high school, I was crowned as the school's female athlete two years in a row for leading the amount of gold medals received for each sports day. I even represented my school for netball match and bowling tournament because I enjoy doing indoor and outdoor sports very much.

Throughout my diploma in interior design, I have entered several events and programs managed by interior architecture department as well as my university. I have once represented my university along with a few design colleagues for an event known as Student Saturday directed by Malaysian Society of Interior Designers (MSID) which is held annually. The group conducted by me, for ASEAN Design Jamboree 2008 event was nominated as the Best group and wont 1st place in a couple of competitions held during the event. That was when I first met interior design students from South East Asia such as Indonesians, Thais and Filipinos. Getting to know them and exchange customs had been one of the most memorable occasions of my entire life and has made me appreciate other country's art and culture even more. Apart from being Assistant Class Representative for a couple of semesters, I was also the Interior Design Student Society
committee member and was elected to be the Project Assistant Manager for Interior Design Day named 'Ranting 09' and to my surprise the event received constant compliments by lecturers and students. Becoming the student of UiTM Perak, Malaysia, has cultivated me to be more capable at doing sketches, AutoCAD drawings, manual renderings and illustrating.

I am currently employed by my former internship firm called A & I Network and I get pleasure from being one of the designers. From there, I learned working with multi-racial developers, contractors and deal with suppliers which has improved my confidence level and communications skills. I value creative thinking, commitment, teamwork and performance. I personally think that being a keen learner with capabilities and the experiences I gained would help me prepare to produce maximum output as possible to complete my first degree. Perhaps later, I could help simplifying and brightening up people's life.
